Well, if you can afford a Kuala Lumpur car rental then it will be the ultimate thing, but for backtrackers like myself, public transport is a necessity. However road transport though being your first choice has its own disadvantages.

Being caught in traffic in the city during rush or peak hours can be a huge frustration. i will have to be honest with you.

Lucky enough for you there are alternative and convenient means - trains.

Trains are traffic congestion free and will take you wherever you want to go fast and hustle free. They are cheap and their route coverage is quite good to cater for the huge demands for alternative public transport.

This reduces traffic congestion encounters to a minimal leaving you to take a public cab or personal car only where necessary. Most train stations have parking lots with a small daily fixed charge where you can safely leave your car till you return.

The Kuala Lumpur Public Transport built KL Sentral as a central hub where you can board all the buses, trains and public cabs for all destinations around Kuala Lumpur its environs. It also caters for baggage and passenger check in to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport or other destinations around the country and Singapore.
